I.E.2 Forearm, Carpal Region & Hand: Forearm Flexors & Extensors: Page 5 of 5

Add the superfical layer of the posterior forearm, which is controlled by the radial nerve using branches of the spinal nerves, C6, C7, C8:

Step 16:  Add the anconeus. Remember that this muscle assists in pronation by abduction the ulna so that the radius can cross over the ulna.

The following muscle extend the fingers and/or the wrist:

Step 17:  Add the extensor carpi ulnaris.
Step 18:  Add the extensor digiti minimi.
Step 19:  Add the extensor digitorum.
Step 20:  Add the extensor carpi radialis brevis.
Step 21:  Add the extensor carpi radialis longus.
Step 22:  Add the brachioradialis.

The brachioradialis, as it's name implies, transverses the elbow and assists in the flexion of the forearm at the elbow during mid pronation.

Question

Since the brachioradialis works in mid-pronation, can you think of an important function you need this muscle to do?
