Step 21:  Start with the pelvis and femurs.
Step 22:  Add the femoral nerve.
Step 23:  Add the external iliac and femoral arteries.
Step 24:  Add the inguinal ligament. The external iliac artery becomes the femoral artery once it crosses under the inguinal ligament
Step 25:  Add the femoral vein. Similar to the the femoral artery, the femoral vein becomes the external iliac vein once it passes under the inguinal ligament.
Step 26:  Add the inguinal lymph nodes.

The sequence of structures, moving from lateral to medial forms the NAVEL (Nerve, Artery, Vein, Empty, Lymph) sequence of the structures in the groin. The area below the inguinal ligament where these structures are located is called the femoral triangle.

Step 27:  Add the skin of the groin area to better understand the anatomical landmarks.
SP Icon Step 28:   Palpate the femoral artery on your Standardized Patient.
